Well as many of you know the conservation season is in for snow geese. We have been watching our field close and not much has been unfolding. Well last week one of the members called me and said there are a few thousand birds roosting in our sheet water pond that we flood each year for duck hunting. I told him to keep and eye on them to see what time they are getting there. It was just as I thought.... They were showing up right at dark. The birds were there every day. They called for some rainy weather so I figured the birds might come early enough to shoot them legally. Five of us sat in the blind on the water hole and waited. When I heard the birds we had 10 minutes left of shooting time. When they were done sitting in we had 5 minutes left. With 2,000 birds sitting within a 60 yard circle I called the shot. When the smoke cleared we had 56 dead. It was a blast.
