Well its all over finally. Every year I hunt hard and I am relieved when its over. I hunted every day with my little buddy. He is a trooper, he would get up before me every day. W had deer on us every day and we saw bucks almost every sit. Usually chasing doe's. The heat killed us but we went anyway since I was on vacation. I saw a few decent bucks but nothing over 115-120 inches. We saw turkeys, bald eagles and all kinds of animals that were happily pointed out to me by my sharp eyed hunting partner. By Thursday I was feeling the pressure from my hunting partner to put something on the ground. I tried to get him on deer but he had a bad case of buck fever and after that most of the deer were to far. Finally I had a doe come out that looked pretty big and I decided to take her. The shot was 154 yards. I shot her in the shoulder and she ran out into the field. My shot was quartering to me slightly and it hit on the point of the shoulder. The bullet exited behind the off shoulder. She went down about 100 yards into the field but had her head up. She eventually started plowing her way back to the woods. I got down and dispatched her. What a great morning with my son.
On the last day I had talked to my friend and we decided to have a kids day and let the kids shoot some guns and have fun since we both have small children that are very interested in hunting and go whenever they can. Wed met at a farm we weren't hunting and did some shooting. By the time we looked at the clock it was after 3pm. I asked both of my kids if they wanted to go hunting for a couple of hours and they excitedly said yes. To be honest I was ready to go home. It was cold and blowing 40 mph. I had them dressed and ready so off we went. We got in the stand at 3:45 pm and waited. We were on a field and facing west, right into the wind. It wasnt long and my buddy who was hunting the other side sent me a text saying that he just had a good buck chasing a doe behind him but it went in before he could get on him. I told my kids to get ready because there was only about 300 yards between us. I moved the kids around in the 2 man ladder so I would be ready and I grabbed my range finder. It wasnt 8 minutes when I looked left and he popped out. I quickly ranged him at 173 yards. I got on him and shot. He mule kicked hard and ran out into the field about 130 yards and started running in circles bleeding everywhere. I knew it was a good hit. Down he went. Me and the kids instantly started our celebration in the stand. I was getting hugs and kisses from my son and daughter. I looked at my son and he had tears running down his face saying we did it daddy, we did it. It was right then that the tears started rolling down my cheeks as well. When I shot I just knew it was a good buck. Looked like good mass and tall tines. I didnt realize what deer it was until we walked up to him. I even did a live facebook recovery *lol* Man was I tickled. And to have a hunt like that with my kids was priceless.
My dad had a great hunt in the middle of the week also. He connected on a nice 9 point that we had been getting a few pics from.
