Friday, January 1, 2016 evening hunt:
Eddie hunted the Hotel California and about 5:00 pm he saw a deer on the far right side of Death Valley Plot. He picked up the gun and the deer dropped his head. Ed waited 5 minutes and the deer never raised his head. He put the gun down and the buck picked up his head again. He repeated it again and the deer never appeared again. He recognized the deer to be "Seymour Butt". A shooter
Don hunted the Killing Tree on the East Plot. Shortly after Ed's encounter I saw doe coming out the Beech Tree Plot Road. She turned to look back and cupped her ears. It was just a fawn... Oh (expletive!) there's antlers coming! I recognized h immediately asy #1 target, "Dem Bones". I lowered the binoculars and notice that I completely forgot about the doe. She saw me. Big mistake, how could I be so stupid? I froze and kept her inu perifial vision. She backed up two steps and turn to go back to safety. "dem Bones" would not let her pass and she turn. Both deer (I lost track of the fawn) walked next to the persimmon tree and started feeding. I eased my30.06 up and put the crosshairs on his shoulder and lined it up to catch both lungs. When I squeezed the trigger the shot startlede like it should.
He ran to the cutover with his head down very low. I saw a deer stop in the cutover about 20 yards in. He or she I did not know.
I waited awhile and walked to the side where I could see into the cut over good. No deer. Now it is dusk and I can't see blood so I backed out and waited for Ed at the camp.
Later Ed and I went back to look. No blood anywhere. I had text Rambow about the shot and he text again to ask progress. Fast forward he. Sent a number and I called it. Forward again. Cliff came out with his dog an we found no blood anywhere but Tasha followed the trail a couple of hundred yards but never showed that the deer was hit.
I went back the next morning in good daylight and found nothing again.
I resigned myself that the bulleti must have been deflected in the tree or / and the scope may also be off 50 feet or so at 100 yards. (Almost a laugh)
