Well wednesday evening I got a text from one of my farm owners asking me when I was gonna shoot a turkey? There was a picture attached to the text and it was of 5 turkeys strutting on lease with a few hens. I instantly replied " when was this? " Apparently he watched them go in and gave me the location of where they went 20 minutes before dark. I had seen these birds last week and figured they were gonna do the same thing. Got a kitchen pass from the front office ( WIFE ) and I was sitting on the point waiting at 5:10 am. As the light broke they were gobbling like crazy. I gently did some yelping and a few clucks which got and imediate response usually cutting me off mid note. Even had some double and triple gobbling going on. At about 6:15 I saw them coming through the woods on the edge of my field. The biggest tom was strutting and the others were following and being careful not to get to close. I only needed about another foot and I would have had him in the open. Instead they all went back down the edge and walked into the woods. I could have killed him at 20 yards in the woods but its not mine. So I gave him the pass . I figured he had him dead to rights as he ran towards where they were setup. All got quiet for a bit with the occasional gobble. Then all of the sudden I heard a gobble close agin on the field just around the corner from me. I hit the call with a soft yelp and some purring. Again he gobbled and then I could see him coming. I got ready and he walked out from around the corner at 15 yards. I didnt let him clear the edge to much in fear he would go back again like last time. BANG Long beard down. The others ran back around the corner and then 2 jakes jumped out and gave my bird and epic beat down!!! Feathers ande dust flying...... I let this go on for 15 minutes and took a few videos. Here is my bird. 24 lbs 8 oz with a 10 1/2 inch beard and spurs that went 1 5/8 and 1 9/16 inches.... What a stud...
